How this site makes money
It does not, at the moment. This page lists the ways a site like this could earn, says why none is used, and explains what would happen first if that changed.
Income today
None. There are no adverts, affiliate links, paid placements, sponsored guides, donations or data sales. Running costs are carried by the publisher, whose legal entity has not been published yet (see about).
Possible sources, and why none is used
| Possible source | Used on this site? | Why not |
|---|---|---|
| Commission from bookmakers for sign-ups | No | It needs links to operators, which can count as gambling advertising under s.87(1), and it would give the site a reason to favour one new licensee over another. |
| Display adverts for betting sites | No | Each advert needs the Authority's approval (s.87(1)) and the content set by L.N. 114 r.8; this site has no approval. |
| Paid lines or badges in the New licensees table | No | The table copies the regulator's list. A paid line would make it something else. |
| Sponsored guides | No | A guide written for an operator could not stay neutral about that operator's duties. |
| Selling reader data | No | No reader data is collected; see privacy. |
| Donations or subscriptions | No | There is no payment system on the site. |
The law behind the missing links
Section 87(1) of the Gambling Control Act, 2025 bars gambling advertising on any electronic or other medium without the Authority's approval. Breaching the section carries a fine of up to KES 20,000,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both (s.87(4)).
The Advertising Regulations, 2026 add the procedure. An advertiser applies on Form 1 at least seven days before a campaign starts (L.N. 114 r.5). An approved advert must show the licence number, a responsible-gambling message and the words "authorized and regulated by the Gambling Regulatory Authority" (r.8), and it may not carry a call to action or testimonials (r.9). A page full of links to new bookmakers would need all of that, and this site has none of it.
Fees charged for advertising betting on the internet also attract excise duty at 15% (Excise Duty Act, First Schedule, Part II, paragraph 8). That is a cost on the advertising side, not a tax on you.
What would happen first if this changed
If the owner ever chose to earn from operators, this page would change before any link appeared. The publisher's legal entity, the GRA advertising approval reference and the terms of any commercial agreement would be published here. Every paid link would be marked as paid. The New licensees table would stay a copy of the regulator's list, with no paid lines.
What this means for you
Nobody paid for a line, a word or a position on this site. The cost of that is real: with no income, updates depend on the publisher's own time, so the dates on each page matter. Check them, and when a date looks old, treat the regulator's live list as the answer.
